What Our Seniors Say

Peter Malakoane
“Our seniors and elders are a strong foundation that future generations are built on. The influence, knowledge, and wisdom they dispense guides us all in wise ways one could never imagine. As a diaspora African community; ZICUSO BC has, and continues to do an exceptional, and exemplary work in, reminding us all to nurture, protect, and drink from this well of enlightenment.”

Rosemary Mandanda
“ZICUSO BC organized a day trip to Squamish for us seniors. We saw scenic views of mountains, rivers, and waterfalls. After this we stopped over at a hotel and were treated to a delicious meal. ‘Taive tirimukati memafaro’ – We were surrounded by so much joy“

Mr. Mukutiri
“ZICUSO is playing a vital role in supporting food security for seniors and immigrant families in Surrey and the surrounding Lower Mainland. Their efforts have been a lifeline for many during these difficult economic times. Heartfelt thanks to the ZICUSO team for their outstanding work, with hopes that they continue their important mission.”
How We Help Seniors
The steering committee regularly make calls to seniors to check on their well being. We are happy that the program has achieved the following outcome
- An increased number of seniors are now involved in community program.
- Whilst more seniors volunteer, they have successfully promoted volunteering from community members. They purchased volunteer t-shirts
- The program has delivered groceries to seniors every month since June 2020 and continues to do so.
- Some seniors were supported and are still being supported to attend their medical appointments during COVID19.
- Seniors are called every week to check on their welfare and keep them connected.
